The 6 Gins of Ginuary!

January is usually known as the dullest month of the year and it’s times like this that we’re glad our gin bar is stocked up. To spice things up and help you forget about those January blues, we decided to get stuck into some tasty recommendations of the nations favourite tipple. Whether you’re a gin connoisseur or a newbie, prefer fruity or spicy notes, drink it straight up or mixed -  we’ve pulled together a selection that we think are the bee’s knees, the cream of the crop, the creme de la creme... So, without further ado, take a look at these gin-credible British gin recommendations!


We recommend: Portobello Road Gin No. 171

Distillery location: London

Tastes like: juniper, lemon and orange citrus, coriander, sweet peppery finish.

Perfect with: a premium tonic water, ice and pink grapefruit garnish.

We say: Portobello Road gin is a staple in the gin bar, hailing from an award-winning London Cocktail bar, we wouldn’t expect anything less than a top quality gin. If you’re looking for a classic gin that ticks all the boxes, this one is just dandy!


We recommend: The King of Soho Gin

Distillery location: London

Tastes like: soft juniper, coriander, citrus, grapefruit, balanced with a subtle hint of spice.

Perfect with: a premium tonic water, ice and slice; grapefruit, lemon or lime to compliment the citrus notes.

We say: The King of Soho gin is a delightfully refreshing choice, perfect for those balmy summer evenings. Quadruple distilled, it works well in the classics or for cocktails. Also a beautiful addition to the collection with an eye-catching bottle. The king of gins!


We recommend: Opihr Oriental Spiced Gin

Distillery location: Warrington

Tastes like: cardamom, zesty citrus and orange, a variety of worldly spices and earth botanicals.

Perfect with: ginger ale and ice or with premium tonic, ice and an orange peel garnish.

We say: With exotic ingredients gathered from across the world, Opihr Gin is crafted in the UK and distilled at one of the oldest distilleries in Britain. The combination of spices and botanicals that have been carefully chosen from all over really take your taste buds on an adventure that is out of this world!


We recommend: Forest Gin

Distillery location: Cheshire

Tastes like: Juniper, berries, citrus notes, coriander, hints of vanilla.

Perfect with: Premium tonic, ice, a sprig of rosemary and a twist of grapefruit.

We say: From the gobsmackingly gorgeous bottle to the utterly delightful taste, this small batch gin is a true artisan masterpiece. Created by a family business, only 85 bottles are distilled at a time, making it one to really savour and enjoy on special occasions - we’d be sad to run out!


We recommend: Conker Gin

Distillery location: Dorset

Tastes like: juniper, elderberries, a hint of spice and a citrus finish.

Perfect with: Premium tonic, ice and a twist of lime peel or complimented well with an elderflower tonic.

We say: Distilled in the South West in Dorset’s first gin distillery using local botanicals and spring water, this award-winning drop is right up our street. This well-balanced gin screams top-quality and is the perfect blend of flavours. It’s a big thumbs up from us!


We recommend: Hoxton Gin

Distillery location: Hoxton

Tastes like: Sweet tropical flavours of coconut and grapefruit.

Perfect with: Ginger ale and lime or pineapple juice (gin pina colada anyone?).

We say: Hoxton Gin is a gin like no other - coconut and grapefruit? It’s a first time trying this one for us! If you’re looking for something unique, look no further. It may be January, but we’re already picturing ourselves watching a summer sunset over the Atlantic Ocean with a glass in our hand...
